Comparing the two designs

Our stained glass window film comes two ways. The Colorful Stained Glass Window Cling Roll is PET film that holds to the glass by static cling alone, in 13 colors from red and sea blue to white frosted. The Stained Glass Window Film Sheets are transparent PVC vinyl with a self-adhesive backing, seven sheets to a pack. Light passes through both, so they add color rather than screening the view. If you require a treatment that blurs the view both ways day and night, browse our Privacy window film options or consult Which window film gives the most privacy? to see how frosted finishes behave when figures approach the glass.

The roll gives semi privacy: the view becomes blurred while the colors stay visible, and at night, with a light on inside, shapes may still show. The sheets carry a stained glass pattern that adds color and texture to the glass. The pattern repeats across sheets, so you can line up several side by side to cover a larger pane.

Choosing the right size

The roll measures 15.7 x 47.2 in (40 x 120 cm). You can cut it down to fit smaller panes, so one roll can cover several narrow windows or a single larger pane. Each sheet measures 7.9 x 11.8 in (20 x 30 cm), and the seven sheets in a pack cover 4.5 sq ft (0.42 m²) together.

Measure inside the window frame directly against the pane, rather than across the frame molding. Panes that look uniform can differ by several millimeters. Add 0.8 in (2 cm) to every edge for trimming the roll. See our guide on How to measure, fit and remove window film.

Glass suitability, fitting and care

The roll is made for flat single or double glazing, not for curved or textured glass. The sheets suit windows, glass doors, cabinet doors, mirrors and glass table tops; textured or uneven surfaces may not give the same result. Check coatings and warranty terms with your glazing manufacturer first, particularly for coated or specialty glass.

To fit the roll, clean the glass, spray it with plain water, peel off the backing and press the film onto the wet glass. Smooth out the water and air from the center outward, then trim the edges with a sharp knife or scissors. To fit a sheet, cut it to size with scissors or a craft knife, then peel the backing away a little at a time as you press it on. If a sheet needs repositioning, peel it back slowly and press it down again.

Wipe either film with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. The roll peels off without residue. To remove a sheet, lift one corner and peel it back slowly; any sticky residue wipes away with soapy water.

Questions

Will it give me privacy at night?

Not fully. The stained glass roll gives semi privacy: it blurs the view, but with a light on inside at night, shapes may still show through. The sheets are transparent and let the light through. For screening day and night, choose a frosted film from our privacy window film.

Will it work on my window?

It needs clean, smooth glass. The roll is made for flat single or double glazing, not curved or textured glass, and the sheets may not give the same result on textured or uneven surfaces. Check coatings and warranty with your glazing manufacturer first.

Can I remove the film when I move?

Yes. The static-cling roll peels off without residue. The self-adhesive sheets peel off slowly from one corner, and any sticky residue wipes away with soapy water.
