What this film is

Clear Security Window Film is a PET sheet with a self-adhesive backing. It presses onto flat single or double glazing and stays put. The film adds a protective layer that helps hold glass together if it breaks, resists everyday scratches, and cuts some heat coming through the pane. It is clear, so it keeps your view and your daylight.

Thickness options

You pick the thickness that matches the level of protection you want.

Thickness Best for
2 mil Light scratch protection and basic heat insulation
4 mil Everyday safety and scratch resistance
8 mil Stronger explosion-proof hold on the glass
12 mil The heaviest protection in this range

Thicker film takes a little more care to smooth out, but it holds glass together with more strength.

Sizes

Every size is 11.8 in (30 cm) wide or wider, so you can cover small panes or long runs of glass. Pick the length that fits your window with a little trim left over.

How to fit it

  1. Clean the glass with plain water and let it dry. Dust and grease stop the adhesive from gripping.
  2. Measure the pane and cut the film about 1 in (2.5 cm) larger on each side. You trim the extra after it is on.
  3. Peel back a few inches of the backing. Press the film onto the top edge of the glass.
  4. Work downward with a squeegee or a soft cloth. Push air and water out as you go, and peel the backing away a little at a time.
  5. Trim the edges with a sharp blade against a straight edge.
  6. Smooth out any remaining bubbles from the center outward.

Work on one pane at a time. A second pair of hands helps on the larger sizes.

Where it works

Use it on flat single or double glazing: home windows, sliding doors, storm doors, glass table tops and cabinet doors. It suits any pane where you want clear protection without changing the look of the room. Because it is clear, it does not darken the space or block the view.

Care

Wipe the film with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. Skip abrasive pads, ammonia cleaners and sharp tools, which can dull or scratch the surface. The film is scratch resistant, not scratch proof, so treat it like glass. If you need to remove it, lift a corner and pull slowly. The self-adhesive backing comes away from the glass.

A note on heat and safety

This film adds heat insulation by cutting some of the sun's heat that passes through the glass. It also helps hold broken glass in place, which lowers the risk of loose shards. It is not a replacement for safety glass or a full security system. Use it as an added layer on flat panes.

Questions

Does this film make my window look dark or tinted?

No. This film is clear, so it keeps your view and your daylight. It adds protection without changing the look of the room.

Which thickness should I choose?

Pick 2 mil for light scratch protection and basic heat insulation. Choose 4 mil for everyday safety, 8 mil for a stronger explosion-proof hold, or 12 mil for the heaviest protection in this range.

Can I put it on double glazing?

Yes. It fits flat single or double glazing. Clean the glass first so the self-adhesive backing grips well.

How do I remove it later?

Lift a corner and pull the film off slowly. The self-adhesive backing comes away from the glass, and you can wipe off any residue with mild soapy water.
