What this window tint is

This is a roll of self-adhesive PET vinyl film for flat glass. You press it onto the pane and the backing sticks on its own, so there is no glue to mix and no water-activation step. The surface has a mirror finish. In daylight, the outside of the glass reflects like a mirror, so people outside cannot see in. From inside, you can still look out. At night, when the light inside is brighter than outside, the effect reverses, which is normal for this kind of film.

The film is made for flat single or double glazing. It works as a decorative layer, adds heat insulation, and helps hold glass together if it cracks, which is the explosion-proof function. It is not a replacement for safety glass and it is not for curved or textured glass.

Sizes

Rolls come in four widths and four lengths. Pick the size that covers your pane with a little extra for trimming.

Measure the glass first, then choose the next size up. A roll that is wider than the pane lets you trim a clean edge. For tall windows, a longer roll covers more height in one strip.

Colors

Seven colors are available: Silver, Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Gold, and Red. Silver gives the strongest mirror look and is the most common pick for daytime privacy. Black is the darkest and reads as a deep tint. Blue, Green, and Brown are softer tones that still reflect in daylight. Gold and Red are warmer statement colors for doors, sidelights, and accent panes. All colors share the same PET vinyl build and the same self-adhesive backing.

How to fit it

Work on a mild day, out of direct sun, so the glass and the film are both at room temperature. Clean the pane with water and a little dish soap, then wipe it dry. Any dust or grit left behind will show as a bump under the film.

Cut the film a little larger than the pane. Peel back a few inches of the backing and press the film onto the top edge of the glass. Slowly pull the backing away as you smooth the film down with a squeegee or a soft cloth, working from the center out to push air ahead of you. Trim the overhang with a sharp blade along the frame. Small bubbles often fade on their own over a few days. If one stays, lift that corner and press it back down.

For double glazing, apply the film to the inside face of the inner pane. Do not apply it to the cavity side. On a hot day, let the glass cool before you start.

Care

Once it is on, treat the film like glass. Wipe it with a soft cloth and plain water or a mild soap. Skip abrasive pads, scouring powder, and ammonia cleaners, which can dull the mirror finish. A squeegee works well for everyday cleaning. If you want to remove the film, lift a corner with your fingernail or a plastic card and pull it back slowly. The self-adhesive backing comes off the glass, and any residue wipes away with warm soapy water.

Questions

Does this film give privacy at night?

The mirror effect works in daylight, when the outside is brighter than the room. At night, with lights on inside, the view reverses and people outside may see in. Close the curtains after dark if you want full privacy.

Can I use it on double glazing?

Yes. It is made for flat single or double glazing. Apply it to the inside face of the inner pane, not the cavity side, and let the glass cool before you start on a hot day.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure the pane, then pick the next size up so you can trim a clean edge. Rolls run from 11.8 x 39.4 in (30 x 100 cm) to 21.7 x 196.9 in (55 x 500 cm).

Will it leave sticky residue when I take it off?

The backing is self-adhesive, so it holds on its own. When you peel the film off, any residue wipes away with warm soapy water.
